DR. GARY BRAY

     Gary Bray joined Lexington Orthopaedic Associates in 1979. He graduated from the University of Louisville, where he was captain of the swim team, with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering. He obtained a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kentucky. He followed with an orthopaedic residency also at U.K. under Dr. Tom Brower. Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Kentucky Medical Society, Kentucky Orthopaedic Society and the Lexington Medical Society.

     He has served as a medical missionary to Haiti and with his family to Kenya. With the support of his partners he continues to return for short term mission work.

      As a general orthopaedist, Dr. Bray enjoys patients from pediatrics to geriatrics and the surgical and non-surgical treatment of his patients. From knee scopes to joint replacement, the challenge of providing the optimal treatment for each individual remains his and LOA’s primary goal.

      Dr. Bray feels blessed to be associated with professional and ethical partners and the caring staff at Lexington Orthopaedic Associates. As he has gained from Drs. Tom Yocum, George Gumbert, James Russell, and Bill Wheeler, he is proud of the outstanding tradition of excellence at Lexington Orthopaedic Associates.













DR. JAMES RITTERBUSCH

     A native of Missouri, Dr. James Ritterbusch graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Biology from Westminster College in 1977. He graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1981, being awarded the senior prize in Pathology and Orthopaedic Surgery. He received his orthopaedic training at the St. Louis University Group Hospitals, being appointed Chief Resident in 1985. His published topics included treatment of chronic osteomyelitis and ankle injuries. After finishing his residency in 1986, Dr. Ritterbusch served 2 years active duty in the United States Air Force, and continued his service for a total of 13 years in the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard. He participated in Operation Desert Storm as well as Operations Northern Watch and Deny Flight. He moved to Kentucky in 1991 to join Lexington Orthopaedic Associates.

      Dr. Ritterbusch enjoys treating people of all age and is accepting new patients. He treats a wide variety of orthopaedic problems both surgically and non-surgically. His areas of interest include arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, sports injuries, joint replacement, reconstructive surgery and fractures.

      Dr. Ritterbusch has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1988. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Kentucky Orthopaedic Society, American Medical Society, Kentucky Medical Association, and Lexington Medical Society.













DR. ANDREW RYAN

      Dr. Andrew W. Ryan, M.D., joined Lexington Orthopaedic Associates in 1996.  Originally from Indiana, he attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, graduating with an A.B. in mathematics (cum laude) in 1984.  After studying in Indianapolis for four years, he received his M.D. in 1988 from the Indiana University School of Medicine.  He completed his Internship in Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and also served an additional year as Junior Assistant Resident between 1988 and 1990.  He then obtained his medical license in Kentucky and worked at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center as an emergency physician from 1990 to 1991.  He and his wife then moved to Columbus, Ohio, for a five year orthopedic residency program at The Ohio State University Hospitals from 1991 to 1996.

      Dr. Ryan has been active with the Kentucky Orthopedic Society and served as vice president from 2007 to 2009, and then president of the KOS from 2009 to 2011.  He has delivered lectures on biomechanics of the golf swing, as well as analysis of new orthopedic materials.  He has research interests in golf theory and decision making for surgeons.  He considers his practice motto to be: Saving the world one limb at a time.

      Dr. Ryan is experienced in surgical and nonoperative management of conditions involving the shoulder, elbow, hands, hips, knees, and feet.  His most common procedures include arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder; carpal tunnel surgery and other minor hand surgery; total joint replacement of the knee hip and shoulder.

     Dr. Ryan and his partners at Lexington Orthopaedic Associates are accepting new patients in all age groups treating a variety of bone and joint problems.  They are happy to treat patients with both osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis, as well as rheumatoid arthritis and other related conditions.

      The group is available through the office for fracture care, as well as Central Baptist Hospital in the Emergency Department and operating room for fracture care or surgery.

     
Dr. Ryan is a Fellow in the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.  He has an active license to practice medicine with the Kentucky State Medical Board.














DR. MICHAEL KIRK

      Dr. Michael E. Kirk came to Lexington Orthopaedic Associates in 2005. he graduated with honors (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Arkansas in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and obtained his Doctor of Medicine Degree with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1992. He served his country for 11 years in the United States Army, completing his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington in 1999. Tours of duty included Washington, Texas, Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq, serving in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Forward Surgical Team Commander. Dr. Kirk and his family moved to Kentucky in 2003. He spends his free time playing golf and basketball, teaching youth Sunday school, supporting school outreach ministries, and participating in interdenominational Bible study.

     
Dr. Kirk enjoys treating people of all ages and is accepting new patients. He treats a wide variety of orthopaedic problems both surgically and non-surgically.

      He is particularly interested in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, reconstructive surgery, joint replacement surgery, and fracture surgery.


      Dr. Kirk has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2001, and is licensed by the Kentucky State Medical Board. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Kentucky Orthopaedic Society, Kentucky Medical Association, Lexington Medical Society, and Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.













DR. JANAK TALWALKAR

     Janak Talwalkar, MD, one of the newest additions to Lexington Orthopaedic Associates and the Orthopaedic staff at Baptist Health Lexington, is a native of Lexington, KY.  He is a product of Lafayette High School and the University of Kentucky.  He earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 2001.  He completed his internship and Orthopaedic residency at the University of Kentucky.  He has spent the last ten years in private practice in Danville, KY.  His desire to be closer to family and his hometown has brought him back to Lexington.  Dr. Talwalkar treats a wide variety of orthopaedic conditions, accepts most insurances, and is currently accepting new patients.
